AMEC 2006 6th Australian Mars Exploration Conference October 13, 14 & 15, 2006 |

INTRODUCTION Registration is now open for the sixth Australian Mars Exploration Conference (AMEC 2006), which will be held in Melbourne in October of this year. The conference theme will be 'Establishing Base Camp: Science, Methods and Technologies to Support the Human Exploration of Mars'. Presentations planned over this two day event will cover a plethora of issues connected to development of a Mars base to support future human exploration, including site selection, building a base, logistics, exploration radii, setting up a research program, communication and crew safety.

'Establishing Base Camp: Science, Methods and Technologies to Support the Human Exploration of Mars' Mars Society This years theme - 'Establishing Base Camp: Science, Methods and Technologies to Support the Human Exploration of Mars' - covers the plethora of issues connected to development of a Mars base to support future human exploration, such as selecting a site, building a base, logistics, exploration radii, setting up a research program, communication and crew safety. Overall there will be six sub-themes and you are asked to consider submitting within one of these: Theme 1 Technology Theme 2 Planetary science and astrobiology Theme 3 Human factors Theme 4 Analogue studies Theme 5 Education and outreach Theme 6 Policy and planning Expressions of interest and/or papers should be forwarded to Jenny Laing, PR Director at pr@marssociety.org.au Full papers are due no later than 1 July 2006, to allow adequate time for review. Papers should be no longer than 5,000 words in length. All papers accepted will be published in the Conference Proceedings.
