18th Australian Space Research Conference

September 24 to 26, 2018

 

The 18th Australian Space Research Conference (ASRC), will be held at Gold Coast in Queensland over September 24 to 26, 2018.

This will be the Twelfth ASRC jointly sponsored and organised by the National Committee for Space and Radio Science (NCSRS) and the National Space Society of Australia (NSSA), with the support of the Mars Society of Australia (MSA).

The ASRC is intended to be the primary annual meeting for Australian space research. It welcomes space scientists, engineers, educators, and workers from across the university, industry and government parts of the space sector, and is not limited to Australian-based research, International participants are most welcome.

The scope of the conference includes fundamental and applied research, operational matters, technology, and use of space data and facilities, including:

  •     Space engineering and technology, including communications, navigation, space operations, space materials, propulsion, and spacecraft design, testing, and implementation.
  •     Space industry and business
  •     Space Situational Awareness (SSA)
  •     Space archaeology and indigenous sky knowledge (or archeo-astronomy)
  •     Humanities and social aspects
  •     Use of space data, including EOS, GNSS, and communications
  •     Current and future Australian space projects
  •     Government, international relations and law
  •     Education and outreach, including a dedicated student session.
  •     Mars and Planetary Exploration


There will be a number of special sessions not on specific research areas including, (1) the national context, as seen by the Space Coordination Office, other Government entities, the Academy of Science, and others, including connections to national strategic roadmaps and funded Centres, (2) next steps beyond, and results from the expired Australian Space Research Program ,and (3) implementation of the 2010 – 2019 Decadal Plan for Australian Space Science and the Strategic Plan for Earth Observations from Space and GNSS.

  •     Professor Melissa de Zwart (University of Adelaide) - " Commercialisation of space: innovation versus domestic legislation?”
  •     Mr Adam Gilmour (GilmourSpace) - "Australian space industry: present and future prospects"
  •     Dr Katarina Miljkovic (Curtin University, WA) - "Exploring Mars with InSight"
  •     Professor Stuart Phinn (University of Queensland) - "Linking Upstream and Downstream Using Australia's Earth Observation Capabilities"
  •     Ms Danielle Shean (Victorian Space Science Education Centre) - "Space Science: Empowering STEM learning"
